About
Zapvision’s Accessible QR (AQR) Code project is a groundbreaking initiative that provides a step-change in the way blind and partially sighted individuals can interact with everyday products. The project addresses the challenge of including accessibility solutions on product packaging due to size constraints by evolving and enhancing the QR code to be accessible for all.
AQR codes can be scanned at a distance and provide users with all the product information including allergens, dietary preferences, and any on-pack information in a structured way that’s designed with blind and partially sighted users in mind and interacts with the device’s configured accessibility features, displaying information in larger text or audio-described and voice-guided. This makes it possible for blind and partially sighted individuals to independently navigate products and access essential information, ensuring inclusivity and enhancing the overall shopping and at-home experience.
The AQR code project is a significant contribution to the field of accessibility in product packaging and has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of millions of people. This is about making access to product information on product a basic human right for everyone everywhere. The project was developed by Zappar with launch partners in Unilever and with input and research conducted by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in response to the needs of 300+ million people worldwide who have moderate to severe visual impairments. It uses existing and widely adopted accessibility apps, making it easy for users to get started. The project is scalable and can be used on a variety of products.
