About

Xarra is an app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro that turns articles, PDFs, DAISY books, documents, and your own text into natural-sounding audio with synchronized highlighting. People can read along line by line, listen hands-free, or move between the two, bringing content in from Safari, Files, the clipboard, a URL, or Project Gutenberg.

What sets Xarra apart is that accessibility shapes every part of the experience rather than appearing as a separate mode. The app works with VoiceOver, Voice Control, Switch Control, and Full Keyboard Access, and respects system settings such as Dynamic Type, Bold Text, Increase Contrast, Differentiate Without Color, and Reduce Motion. Readers can choose fonts such as OpenDyslexic, Atkinson Hyperlegible, or Lexend, and when an article includes image alt text or captions, Xarra keeps that information in both the readable and spoken content.

Xarra also makes long content easier to follow. Detected headings become chapters people can jump between, the current line and word are highlighted as the app reads, and playback speed can match a person's own assistive technology speech settings. It detects each document's language and lets people choose a preferred voice for it.

Built by Accessibility Up to 11!, Xarra is designed to be easy to trust: downloaded content works offline, there are no ads, analytics, or trackers, and no separate account is needed. It shows how an independent developer can build accessibility into a product from the very beginning.
